Shipping Confidently with regular and expedited service.
Located along the route between San Antonio & Dallas is the growing city of Austin, TX. This city has always been a popular stop for carriers freight servicing various points in the state of Texas and providing furtherance into Mexico. ShipCanada focusses on both freight and parcel shipments moving into and out of the city on a bi-weekly basis. Most of the LTL freight originating in this city is consolidated at hubs in Dallas and Fort Worth. The largest exports from this region involve petrolium products or machinery in support of petrolium production. Whether you are a personal or commercial shipper, ShipCanada will show you how to ship from Austin to Canada and what is involved in the export process.
Prior to having your shipment is picked up, we will need to decide how your cargo or package will be customs cleared when it arrives at the international border. As a general rule, "truck" freight (shipments typically over 150 lbs. or on a pallet) will need to be pre-cleared by a certified Canadian customs broker. There are hundreds of customs brokerages in Canada that will represent you and the cost can range from $50-200 per clearance. Visit our Customs Tracking page to see a few of the brokerages listed.
If your shipment is under the 150 lbs. threshhold - and not on a skid or crate (i.e. travelling by courier), the customs will likely be done by the courier in transit. Large courier companies generally have in-house customs to quickly clear international shipment while they are moving.
One of the main documents you will need with either shipping method is a commercial invoice. This outlines (at a minimum) the Seller, the Buyer, the Value & currency used, the product description (ideally with the an H.S. code) and the quantity of the item being exported. You will need to make (3) copies of this document and provide it to the driver upon pickup. If your shipment arrives at the border with the Commercial invoice it will be refused entry.
